Abrasive Wheel Training Course

This Abrasive Wheel Training Course is designed to provide operatives with the knowledge and practical skills necessary to safely mount, dress, and use abrasive wheels in accordance with the Provision and Use of Work Equipment Regulations 1998 (PUWER 98) and relevant HSE guidance.

The course is suitable for anyone who uses or is responsible for supervising the use of abrasive wheels, including bench grinders, angle grinders, chop saws, and other machinery where abrasive wheels are used.

Course Objectives:

  • Understand the legal requirements relating to abrasive wheels.
  • Identify the hazards associated with abrasive wheel use.
  • Select the correct type of wheel for the job.
  • Inspect and test wheels prior to use.
  • Understand proper handling, storage, and transportation of abrasive wheels.
  • Safely mount and dress abrasive wheels.
  • Understand markings, speeds, and compatibility.

  • Legislation and responsibilities (PUWER 98).
  • Types of abrasive wheels and their uses.
  • Wheel markings and compatibility.
  • Hazards and risk control measures.
  • Pre-use checks and maintenance.
  • Mounting, balancing, and dressing of wheels.
  • Safe use and personal protective equipment (PPE).
  • Practical demonstration and assessment.

Duration:

Approximately 3 hours.

Safety training tools including boots, gloves, radio, helmet, and vest for health and safety complia.
Assessment and Certification:

Delegates will be assessed through a combination of theory and practical evaluation. Successful participants will be awarded a certificate of competence valid for 3 years.
