Face Fit Testing – Awareness & Practical Training
Course Overview:
This Face Fit Testing course provides both theoretical knowledge and practical training to ensure individuals required to wear tight-fitting respiratory protective equipment (RPE) understand the importance of a correct fit. The course also includes a practical fit test in line with current HSE guidance and industry best practice.
Who Should Attend:
- Employees required to wear tight-fitting RPE such as FFP3 disposable masks, half masks, or reusable respirators
- Managers or supervisors responsible for issuing or managing RPE
- Health and Safety personnel involved in workplace risk controls involving airborne contaminants
Course Content:
- Overview of the Control of Substances Hazardous to Health (COSHH) Regulations 2002
- Understanding respiratory hazards and routes of exposure
- Types of RPE and selection guidance
- The importance of achieving a proper fit
- Maintenance, storage, and user checks
- Practical demonstration and qualitative face fit testing
- Completion of Face Fit Test Records and certification
Course Duration:
Approximately 2–3 hours per session (depending on number of delegates and mask types)
Assessment:
Delegates will receive a qualitative face fit test using an approved testing solution and hood method. Those who pass will be issued with a Face Fit Test Certificate valid for 2 years (or as recommended by the employer’s risk assessment).
Maximum Delegates:
Up to 10 delegates per session
Certification:
Successful participants will receive a Face Fit Test Certificate indicating the specific mask model and size they were tested against.
Pre-Requisites:
- Delegates must be clean-shaven on the day of testing (tight-fitting masks cannot be tested on individuals with facial hair)
- Delegates should bring the RPE they use or intend to use at work
