Health and Safety Awareness Course

This Health and Safety Awareness Course is designed for individuals at all levels who require a foundational understanding of health and safety principles in the workplace. It is particularly suitable for those entering a workplace for the first time or as a refresher for those looking to reinforce core responsibilities and safe working practices.

The course provides an overview of key legislation, risk assessment processes, and common workplace hazards. Delivered over one full day, it is ideal for improving awareness and fostering a positive health and safety culture across all industries.

Course Objectives:

  • Understand the legal duties of employers and employees under the Health and Safety at Work etc. Act 1974.
  • Gain awareness of key supporting regulations, including The Management of Health and Safety at Work Regulations 1999.
  • Recognise the importance of personal responsibility in maintaining a safe working environment.
  • Understand how to identify common hazards and report unsafe acts or conditions.
  • Learn the purpose and process of a risk assessment.
  • Develop awareness of workplace controls such as signage, PPE, and safe systems of work.
  • Understand accident/incident reporting procedures and the importance of near-miss reporting.

Course Content:

  • Introduction to UK Health and Safety legislation (HSWA, MHSWR, RIDDOR, COSHH, PUWER).
  • Roles and responsibilities of employers, employees, and appointed persons.
  • Identifying and controlling common workplace hazards (manual handling, slips/trips, working at height, fire, electricity).
  • Risk assessments – principles and practical examples.
  • Use of PPE, safety signage, and workplace controls.
  • Accident and incident reporting procedures, including near-miss reporting.
  • Introduction to fire safety and emergency procedures.
  • Importance of good housekeeping and workplace hygiene.
  • Promoting a positive health and safety culture.
  • Interactive discussions, scenarios, and short quizzes.

Duration:

1 full day (typically 6–7 hours including breaks), suitable for all experience levels.

Safety training tools including boots, gloves, radio, helmet, and vest for health and safety complia.
Assessment and Certification:

Delegates will be assessed through a short written multiple-choice test. Upon successful completion, a certificate of attendance will be issued, valid for 3 years as recommended refresher frequency.
