Asbestos Awareness Training Course
This Asbestos Awareness Training Course is designed to provide delegates with essential knowledge about the dangers of asbestos and how to avoid the risks associated with asbestos exposure in the workplace. The course complies with the Control of Asbestos Regulations 2012, the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974, and HSE guidance on asbestos safety.
It is ideal for tradespeople, maintenance workers, construction operatives, and anyone who may encounter asbestos-containing materials (ACMs) during their work.
Course Objectives:
- Understand what asbestos is and where it can be found.
- Recognize the health risks associated with asbestos exposure.
- Identify different types of asbestos and their common uses.
- Learn how to avoid disturbing asbestos materials.
- Understand the legal responsibilities of employers and employees.
- Know what to do if asbestos is suspected or disturbed.
Course Content:
- Introduction to asbestos and its properties.
- Types of asbestos: Chrysotile, Amosite, and Crocidolite.
- Common locations of asbestos in buildings.
- Health effects of asbestos exposure, including mesothelioma and asbestosis.
- Overview of the Control of Asbestos Regulations 2012.
- Emergency procedures and reporting asbestos incidents.
- The role of asbestos surveys and risk assessments.
- Importance of PPE and safe working practices.
- Limitations of asbestos awareness training (non-licensable vs licensable work).
Duration:
Approximately 3 hours.
Assessment and Certification:
Delegates will be assessed through a short theory test. Successful participants will receive an Asbestos Awareness certificate of competence, valid for 1 year.
