Banksman Training Course

This Banksman Training Course is designed to equip delegates with the knowledge and skills required to safely guide and assist drivers of large vehicles during reversing and maneuvering operations. The course complies with the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974, Workplace (Health, Safety and Welfare) Regulations 1992, and HSE guidelines for workplace transport safety.

It is ideal for warehouse operatives, yard staff, and anyone responsible for vehicle movements in industrial, construction, or commercial settings.

Course Objectives:

  • Understand the roles and responsibilities of a banksman.
  • Identify hazards associated with vehicle movements.
  • Communicate effectively using standard hand signals.
  • Assist drivers safely during vehicle reversing and maneuvering.
  • Implement safe systems of work and control measures.
  • Promote a safe working environment around vehicles.

Course Content:

  • Overview of relevant legislation and best practice.
  • Responsibilities of the driver and banksman.
  • Common causes of accidents involving vehicle movements.
  • Hazard recognition and risk assessment.
  • Safe systems of work for reversing operations.
  • Standard banksman hand signals (as per HSE guidelines).
  • Communication techniques and use of radios or other aids.
  • Practical exercises in guiding vehicles safely.
  • Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and visibility standards.

Duration:

Approximately 3 hours.

Safety training tools including boots, gloves, radio, helmet, and vest for health and safety complia.
Assessment and Certification:

Delegates will be assessed through practical demonstration and a short theory test. Successful participants will receive a certificate of competence, valid for 3 years.
