Electric Pallet Truck Training Course

This Electric Pallet Truck Training Course is designed for individuals who are required to operate electric pallet trucks (both pedestrian-operated and ride-on) as part of their daily work activities. The course provides operators with the skills, knowledge, and awareness required to use this equipment safely and efficiently in accordance with current health and safety legislation.

This course is ideal for both novice operators and those in need of refresher training, and is suitable across a range of working environments including warehouses, retail, and logistics operations. Delivered over one full day, it combines classroom theory with practical hands-on training.

Course Objectives:

  • Understand the legal responsibilities of operators under the Provision and Use of Work Equipment Regulations 1998 (PUWER) and Lifting Operations and Lifting Equipment Regulations 1998 (LOLER).
  • Identify different types of electric pallet trucks and their specific applications.
  • Carry out pre-use inspections and report defects in line with company and regulatory procedures.
  • Operate electric pallet trucks safely and effectively in a range of workplace settings.
  • Understand the principles of load stability, safe handling, and recommended operating practices.
  • Navigate confined or busy spaces with an emphasis on pedestrian awareness and safe travel.
  • Apply appropriate safety procedures when parking, charging, and storing equipment.

 

Course Content:

  • Health and Safety legislation overview (PUWER, LOLER, HSWA 1974).
  • Types of electric pallet trucks – pedestrian-operated, ride-on, and powered stackers.
  • Pre-use checks and basic fault finding.
  • Safe operation techniques – travelling, turning, lifting, and lowering.
  • Load handling, weight distribution, and stability principles.
  • Environmental awareness – ramps, gradients, floor conditions, and pedestrian safety.
  • Charging procedures and battery maintenance (for electric trucks).
  • Emergency stopping, isolation procedures, and safe parking.
  • Practical training exercises and scenario-based discussions.

Duration:

1 full day (typically 6–7 hours including breaks), with both theory and practical sessions.

Safety training tools including boots, gloves, radio, helmet, and vest for health and safety complia.
Assessment and Certification:

Delegates will be assessed through a combination of theoretical knowledge (multiple choice test) and practical demonstration. Successful candidates will receive a certificate of training, valid for 3 years.
