Legal Requirements
Under the Health and Safety at Work etc. Act 1974 and the Provision and Use of Work Equipment Regulations 1998 (PUWER), employers have a legal duty to ensure that any employee operating work equipment (including forklift trucks) is adequately trained and competent.
The Approved Code of Practice (ACOP) L117 by the HSE also clearly states that operators must receive appropriate training and assessment before using forklift trucks.
