Manual Handling Training Course

This Manual Handling Training Course is designed to provide delegates with the knowledge and practical skills required to safely lift, carry, and move loads in the workplace. The course complies with the Manual Handling Operations Regulations 1992, the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974, and HSE guidance on best practices for manual handling tasks.


It is ideal for warehouse staff, delivery drivers, construction workers, office personnel, and anyone who regularly performs manual handling duties as part of their role.

Course Objectives:

  • Understand the legal requirements and responsibilities relating to manual handling. 
  • Identify common risks and injuries associated with poor manual handling.
  • Learn safe manual handling techniques for lifting, lowering, pushing, and pulling.
  • Apply ergonomic principles to reduce strain and prevent injury.
  • Conduct basic manual handling risk assessments.
  • Promote a culture of safety and good practice in the workplace.

  • Overview of manual handling legislation and employer/employee duties.
  • Anatomy of the spine and how manual handling can affect the body.
  • Types of injuries related to poor manual handling.
  • Risk assessment principles and identifying hazards.
  • Safe lifting techniques and posture awareness.
  • Team lifting and the use of handling aids and equipment.
  • Practical demonstrations and supervised practice.
  • Importance of PPE and safe workplace layout.

Duration:

Approximately 3 hours.

Safety training tools including boots, gloves, radio, helmet, and vest for health and safety complia.
Assessment and Certification:

Delegates will be assessed through a short theory test and practical demonstrations. Successful participants will receive a certificate of competence, valid for 3 years.
